What is EMDR? EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an extensively researched and effective psychotherapy method. EMDR therapy has been proven to help people recover from trauma, PTSD symptoms, and has also been shown to be helpful for symptoms and disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed overwhelming and traumatic memories in the brain.

For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies. EMDR therapy does NOT require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviours resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR is a therapy that encourages a client to briefly focus on an overwhelming or trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements). Research shows that bilateral (back and forth) stimulation reduces vividness and emotion associated with the memories.

Life gets hard sometimes. Our minds get stuck in old stuff or start bracing for issues to come. We feel alone and/or overwhelmed in the midst of what we face each day.

I want you to know there is hope. Life can be worth living and sharing. I offer a genuine, relatable, and understanding attitude for you to connect with.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) (#6260) I have worked for over 10 years with people feeling stuck in issues of mental health, chronic illness, chronic pain, difficulties in relationships, and other stressful experiences.

As your struggles and what you seek are unique, I use evidence-based and process-focused approaches for adults of all ages. This means honouring your individuality, bringing in techniques which best help you move creatively towards more integrated living with your values and connections.

Approaches I use more often include Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy, and Relational Frame Theory. I am also trained in EMDR therapy (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, meaninglessness, or something unique to you, I would be honoured to be with you in the healing process.

I am a Registered Psychologist (#2207) offering adult individual psychology services in Victoria, B.C.

I completed my Master’s in Counselling with City University of Seattle and, prior to this, earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology at the University of Alberta.

In 2019, I founded Fairfield Psychology to provide community-based mental health and wellness services in Victoria.

Studying family dynamics, intimate relationships, human sexuality, and numerous other subjects in my ecology degree helped to instill in me a holistic systems perspective. In 2013 and 2014, I was invited to return to this program as a University instructor. I also worked in community settings for several years and, more recently, in private practice.

Building a strong working relationship is one of the most effective aspects of therapy and one I take seriously.

I am passionate about working with others using a trauma-informed approach to understand and integrate their experience of thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations.

I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).* I am also a Level I Qi Gong practitioner (with Dr. Aung).

Not accepting new clients.

Welcome! I’m so glad to see you here.

Life likes to throw curveballs at us unexpectedly, often before we are equipped with the tools to handle them effectively. As we moved through life, we may have learned different ways of coping with problems that we now realize are no longer working or serving us. You are not alone!

Counselling can assist you to un-learn unhelpful patterns and re-learn new skills that empower you to align your life with your values.

I offer individual counselling to adults 18 years and older. I have an interest in supporting individuals to create authentic and meaningful connections with themselves and others. This could include:

  • Addressing family of origin challenges
  • Strengthening intimacy in relationships
  • Unpacking perfectionism and imposter syndrome
  • Overcoming people-pleasing tendencies
  • Managing feelings of shame
  • Navigating bicultural identity integration or any human experience in between

No issue is too big or too small, and we will tackle it as a team.

You will find that my approach to counselling is relational, curious, and non-directive (you always get to lead how we spend our time together).

My work draws from narrative, somatic, attachment, person-centred, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

I also practice through an intersectional and trauma-informed lens as I recognize the detrimental impact of oppressive systems and sociocultural messaging on one’s lived reality and well-being.

If you think we might be a good fit, I would love to hear from you! It would be an honour to walk beside you on your journey toward healing, growth, and change.

I am a counselling practicum student finishing my Master of Counselling degree at City University of Seattle.

A lifelong artist, my fascination with the human condition is what has always inspired my work and what eventually brought me to counselling.

I work with adult individuals 18 years and older in areas such as transitions, life issues, and overwhelm.

By co-building with clients a safe and non-judgmental space, we can then explore areas that need some attention and care. There are stories that we tell ourselves that work in our favour and others that need to be tweaked, re-crafted, or sometimes left behind.

A different perspective can often bring clarity, and being truly heard can bring some healing. We all have our unique paths to take, and I feel honoured to walk with people for a time when extra support is needed.

Collaborative and narrative therapies, as well as some therapeutic arts and somatic work are what I draw from to help clients navigate through whatever life throws their way.
