Whether it’s school stress, friendships, or family issues, counselling helps children and teens build emotional resilience, boost confidence, and learn healthy ways to manage anxiety or tough feelings. Somatic Experiencing (SE™) Counselling (RCC)
Somatic Experiencing (SE™) aims to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies and nervous systems. Trauma, from an SE lens, is focused on how it shows up in the nervous system and how that disregulation impacts life. When we are stuck in patterns of fight, flight, or freeze, SE helps us release, recover, and become more resilient. It is a **body-oriented therapeutic model** applied in multiple professions and professional settings—psychotherapy, medicine, coaching, teaching, and physical therapy—for healing trauma and other stress disorders from a nervous system lens within a practitioner’s scope of practice. It is the life's work of Dr. Peter Levine.
EMDR Therapy (RCC)
What is EMDR? EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an extensively researched and effective psychotherapy method. EMDR therapy has been proven to help people recover from trauma, PTSD symptoms, and has also been shown to be helpful for symptoms and disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed overwhelming and traumatic memories in the brain.
For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies. EMDR therapy does NOT require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviours resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR is a therapy that encourages a client to briefly focus on an overwhelming or trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements). Research shows that bilateral (back and forth) stimulation reduces vividness and emotion associated with the memories.
